Privacy Policy
The short version
- You can use the whole app without giving us any personal information. No account is required.
- We do not run ads. We do not use analytics, telemetry, or third-party trackers.
- We never sell your data or share it for advertising.
- The only personal detail we ask for is an email address, and only if you choose to save your progress across devices.
Who we are
Al Ahd is a free devotional app that helps you keep a daily Dua al-Ahd practice. In this policy, "we" and "the app" refer to the Al Ahd project. You can reach us at salam@alahd.app.
What we collect, and why
A random device identifier
When you first open the app, it creates a random device identifier on your phone and a matching profile on our server. This lets the app remember your progress without asking for your name or email. The identifier is a random string. It is not linked to your real identity, your contacts, or your phone's hardware IDs.
Your email address, only if you choose to save your progress
If you want to keep your progress when you change phones, you can give an email address. We send a one-time sign-in link to that address (there are no passwords). We store the email so we can recognise you on a new device. You can keep using the app forever without ever doing this.
Your recitation activity
When you mark a morning as recited, we record the date, the time, and which morning window it fell in (based on your city's prayer times). This is what powers your running count of 40 consecutive mornings and your lifetime record. It is tied to your profile, not shared with anyone.
Your settings and preferences
Your chosen city, language, prayer-time and Hijri-date adjustments, text size, and reminder choice. Most of these live only on your device. Your city is also stored on our server so your progress and prayer-time window stay correct across devices.
Stored on your device only
The app keeps a local copy of the dua text and audio, recent prayer times, your pending and recent recitations, and your settings, so it works offline. This data stays on your phone. It is removed when you sign out, reset the app, or uninstall it.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers and no ad networks.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or behaviour tracking of any kind.
- No precise location. We only use the city you pick from a short list for prayer times.
- No microphone access and no audio recording. The app only plays audio.
- No contacts, photos, calendar, or health data.
- No push-notification tokens. Morning reminders are scheduled on your device by the operating system, not sent from our servers.
Where your data is stored
Your profile and recitation history are stored on cloud infrastructure in the European Union. A few providers help us run the app, such as database hosting and an email service for the one-time sign-in links. They process your data only to run the app for us, under contract, and we never sell it. Some of this may be processed outside the EU, with appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Your profile, recitation log, and streak are kept while your account exists.
- Sign-in links expire 24 hours after they are sent and can be used only once.
- Data stored on your device is cleared when you sign out, reset the app, or uninstall it.
Your choices and rights
- No account needed. You never have to give an email.
- Clear local data. Use "Sign out" or "Reset this device" in Settings, or uninstall the app.
- Delete your account and server data. Open Settings in the app and tap "Delete my account" to permanently remove your profile and recitation history from our servers. You can also email us at salam@alahd.app if you prefer.
- Access, correct, or export. Email us and we will help. Depending on where you live, you may have these rights by law.
Children
The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are stored only as a hashed value on our side, never in plain text. Your sign-in token on your phone is kept in the device's secure storage.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in the app.
